Tested by ice fishing

The integrity of a Groveley-made precision titanium fishing centre pin reel – produced in collaboration with Piscario – was severely tested during a spot of ice fishing in Canada at minus 10 degrees.

This report from Canadian premium fishing products company River Reaper Fishing: “In February I took my Piscario pin out on the Canadian waters for the first time in the minus 10 degree weather. I travelled to my favourite spot of Lake Simcoe in Ontario, Canada where the depth of the water ranges from 26–46ft.

“This was my first experience using the Piscario Elemental centre pin reel. Although ice fishing is not the traditional use for a centre pin reel, I was eager to see how this reel performed in frigid temperatures and am happy to report that I was not disappointed. Despite the cold weather, wind and frost, this reel performed flawlessly. The smooth action and great feel on my hand allowed me to reel in some amazing white fish ranging from 4-8 pounds.

Trip #2: we arrived at 7:00am and caught our limit of 2 whitefish in a matter of minutes. Even in the shallow waters, these fish put up a great fight. Despite the harsh Canadian winter conditions, this reel shows no hesitation and is easy to use even with heavy gloves on. The beauty of centre pin fishing is in fighting fish on a drag-less reel. You can’t beat a crisp, clear day on the ice.”
