Hazard detection specialists Groveley Detection has provided a unique solution to drawing air samples from high pressure areas on oil and gas platforms.
In a recent installation, leak detection was needed at the cooling medium expansion drum and the primary heating medium expansion drum and, for the first time, Groveley utilised pressure inside to drive the sample instead of drawing the sample off.
Director Robert Bennet explained: "It is difficult to suck off samples from a high pressure area. We overcame the issue by using the pressure to push the sample through, then regulating the pressure down inside the cabinet and providing pressure release valves for added safety."
The benefit to the platform is less maintenance because the passive system needs no external air or other platform facilities.
The samples are driven through to a Groveley GD-A aspirator fitted to the compressor seal gas hydrocarbon which monitors the seals for leaks.
