Karachaganak Protected by Groveley´s Detectors

Groveley Detection has supplied another 3 channel hydrogen sulphide aspirators to the Karachaganak oilfield in Kazakhstan, one of the world's largest oil and gas condensate fields.

The system operates in conjunction with Groveley's self-compensating duct probes to monitor the whole width of a duct, enabling the aspirator to draw samples to the gas detectors mounted inside.

Groveley has now supplied 30 gas, smoke and hydrogen sulphide aspirator systems to the Karachaganak field. The aspirators monitor air intakes to plant rooms to protect personnel and equipment. If any flammable gas, toxic gas or smoke is detected, the building enters emergency mode and air intakes are closed to keep workers safe until the danger is over.

Groveley director Robert Bennet said: "The systems were selected for being very easy to operate and maintain and for their reliability - a point born out by the fact that no units have come back for repair, and some have been there since 1998."

The Karachaganak field was discovered in 1979 and production commenced in 1985. Field development is overseen by four international partners; BG Group, Eni, Chevron and LUKOIL.
