Groveley Reports Record Year

Thursday 22nd October 2009

Hazard detection specialist Groveley Detection has reported a record year with an increase in turnover and profitability for its latest financial year which ended in May.

Despite global delays in oil and gas new build projects and larger contracts, Groveley has won plenty of smaller orders in refurbishments, upgrades and maintenance.

The boost was helped in part by the petrochemical industry's increasing interest in ultrasonic leak detection. Groveley's ultrasonic range GDU has been in the market for three years and is expanding as the industry enjoys the benefits of omnidirectional detectors that instantly detect pressurised gas leaks.

The intrinsically safe GDU detector detects leaks operate over a wide dB range by 'hearing' the sound generated by escaping gas at ultrasonic frequencies rather than responding to specific values of LEL or ppm.

And strong demand has continued for Groveley´s gas detection aspirators - during the global downturn installations are discovering they can reduce cost-of-ownership by replacing less efficient detection systems with aspirators that need virtually no maintenance. And whatever servicing is required is within easy reach.

The aspirators monitor air intakes to the platforms to protect personnel and plant. If any flammable gas, toxic gas or smoke is detected, the aspirators alert the main fire and gas control panel which sounds an alarm and closes the air intakes to keep workers safe until the danger is over.

Managing director Robert Bennet said: "Whilst Groveley has steered its way successfully though the last year, we are aware the fluctuating oil price can cause projects to be delayed or even cancelled, so we need to be constantly vigilant and flexible with our resources."
