Groveley Detection Systems for BP Bruce

GD10P Infrared Gas DetectorGroveley Detection has provided more than 700 new gas detectors for BP's overhaul of the safety and control systems on its Bruce oil and gas platform in the North Sea.

The new detectors - Simtronics GD10P solid state, infra-red units - replaced catalytic detectors. They detect hydrocarbon gases with unique, failsafe infrared sensors that need no calibration or servicing during their lifetime.

MD Robert Bennet said: "The GD10P is the Rolls Royce of gas detectors; and critically they have a long life with low maintenance costs - which are important factors for BP."

Groveley supplied 70 units per month from June 07, along with adaptor plates to fit the new detectors to existing mountings.

It is Groveley's largest-ever order for Simtronics equipment, for which it is the sole UK distributor.

The GD10P´s infrared source is a silicon-based component that lasts up to 60 years - unlike normal infrared lamps that survive only 3-4 years. The SimSourceTM is not affected by vibration.

The unit performs self-diagnostic and calibration tests and gives a clear warning if a malfunction is detected, without giving a false gas alarm.
